The Health Center Program: Requirements

Health centers, both Federally Qualified Health Centers, which receive Federal funding, and Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alikes, which do not, must meet a strict set of requirements, including:

Governance

  • Health centers must operate under a consumer Board of Directors governance structure

Sliding Fee Scale

  • Health centers must provide services without regard for patients' ability to pay and charge for services on a Board-approved sliding-fee scale that is based on patients' family size and income

Change in Scope

  • Federally Qualified Health Centers, which receive Federal funding, must also receive prior approval of revisions to the budget and project plan whenever there is a significant change in the scope or nature of project activities.
