The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will award approximately $56 million in supplemental grant awards to health centers funded under section 330 of the Public Health Service Act in fiscal year (FY) 2009 to support base grant adjustments for existing health centers. These base adjustments are expected to strengthen health centers’ ability to maintain their current service delivery capacity, assuring access to comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary health care services for the Nation’s underserved communities and vulnerable populations.
HRSA will award approximately $56 million for health center base adjustments in FY 2009 using a formula allocation process. In establishing the funding allocation formula, HRSA considered the unique needs of both rural and urban, and small and large, health centers as well as the overall increased demand for services at health centers across the Nation, including a significant number of new uninsured patients. Under the FY 2009 base adjustment formula, all section 330 grantees will receive the base amount of $17,000 with an additional $1.00 per health center patient and an additional $3.00 per uninsured health center patient as exhibited on their Calendar Year 2008 Uniform Data System (UDS) submission as of April 24, 2009. For those grantees with neither CY 2007 nor CY 2008 UDS reports on file, the maximum amount that will be awarded is the base amount of $17,000.
Health Center Program grantees should contact their Project Officer with any questions regarding FY 2009 base adjustments.
Sincerely,
James Macrae
