Reno Health Center Excels at Outreach and Rapid Growth

It can be hard to keep up with the seemingly endless population growth in Nevada. Yet the Community Health Alliance in Reno manages to do just that.

In addition to its funding from HRSA, the health center has received funding from the city of Reno, the state of Nevada, United Way, and other sources to keep expanding and offering innovative programs.

Recent developments include a new building funded by $5 million from the city of Reno and a new medication-assisted treatment program for drug addiction that launched in September 2024.

Less prominent, but just as important, are successful events such as a Family Health Festival in the spring of each year and a push to get students vaccinated before the new school year. The center routinely works with other non-profits, such as a local food bank and the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The Community Health Alliance has six locations and a mobile unit that visits schools and other locations, which also helps with community outreach. CEO Oscar Delgado credits the health center’s staff with being able to support regular services while adding new activities. “I’ve got an amazing team — so nimble and innovative,” he said.

The health center has grown with the region, which has become a regional manufacturing and distribution hub as companies ranging from Tesla to Amazon set up shop there. Community Health Alliance has more than 300 employees. UDS data show that the patient population grew from around 20,100 in 2020 to more than 27,600 in 2023.
