LALs meet all Health Center Program requirements, but they do not receive program funding.
Congress created LALs so that more people have access to care.
Why you should apply
If you become an LAL, you can get:
- Paid for services to Medicare and Medicaid patients (Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Prospective Payment System (PPS))
- Drug discounts (340B Drug Pricing Program)
- Free vaccines for children without insurance or not enough insurance (Vaccines for Children Program)
- Help finding and keeping primary care providers (National Health Service Corps)
- Training and technical assistance
Note: The Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) does not offer medical malpractice insurance for LALs.

How to remain an LAL
You’ll need to do two things to remain an LAL:
